Leveling lockpicking "on the go" is perfectly viable. If you break a lockpick, a small, fixed amount of experience is given, regardless of any other factors Experience is given when you successfully pick a lock for the first time and when you break a lockpick. Using The Mage Stone and a Sleeping bonus (such as Well Rested) will increase the experience you gain per enchantment. Enchant all of them preferably with the most expensive enchantment you know for After that, you will have to advance by crafting items: acquire a number of filled soul gems of any size and the same number of unenchanted weapons, armor, clothing or jewelry. One way to level up Enchanting quickly is by disenchanting items - the more powerful the better - but will only get you so far. Using the Black Star and a Weapon with Soul Trap effect, you can train by recharging the weapon after every kill without having to worry about soul gems. It does not matter how many charges there are left on the weapon. Recharging enchanted weapons using Soul Gems gives small to moderate skill increases, based on the size of the soul used. However, only one item per effect may ever be disenchanted. Disenchanting items gives widely varied skill increases, dependent on the effect learned and the magnitude on the item, with apparel effects generally giving larger increases than weapon effects. If they're following you, though, you can always take the money back out of their inventory if you get stuck in this situation. The only downsides to this is that you can only train 5 times per level, and that it's relatively easy to end up with the trainer carrying too much gold for you to feasibly pickpocket. Some skill trainers are also followers (the Companions come to mind immediately), so you can do a little of both if you so desire. Pay them to rank up a skill, and then pickpocket the gold back. You can also level this easily with skill trainers, as money paid to them for skill training ends up in their inventory. If you fail, I think you have to wait 2 days before you can steal again, which means that quicksaving/loading is probably faster. ![]() (Lydia tended to just say something to the effect of "I saw you, but I'll let it go. I found this pretty easy to do with a follower, such as Lydia.
